Please help out Mr. Leavell & the WEMS Band by purchasing an item from them either from a student, or through their webstore: http://www.helpourgroup.com. Thursday, September 22 - Band Booster Meeting - 6:00 PM - WEHS Choir Room - Final preparations for the WEHS Raider Invitational on October 01, as well as our trip to Murray State University on Sept. 24 (see below).
Saturday, September 24 - Murray State University Festival of Champions. This is something new on the schedule and replaces our planned trip to Hart County. This is a great opportunity for our students to participate in a very large contest, currently featuring 21 bands. There are 5 bands signed up in Class AAA:
- Boonville High School (IN)
- Grain Valley High School (MO)
- Lone Oak High School
- Paducah Tilghman High School
- WARREN EAST HIGH SCHOOL
This may change slightly, depending on if bands add on Tuesday due to contests not making.
Festival of Champions is a Prelims/Finals format contest (similar to Green County in 2009 & Caverna & Barren County last year). A total of 12 bands will advance to Finals competition - the top band in each class and the next seven based on score. Additionally, if any band is 2nd place in their class and does not make Finals, they will get to perform before Finals in exhibition.
Festival of Champions features a top-notch adjudication panel, gives our students the opportunity to perform in a very large venue with tough competition and an amazing crowd, and allows them to see the Murray State University Racer Band. MSU is also working to telecast FoC on television. Mr. Leavell and I very excited about what our participation in Festival has to offer, and I will have more details on FoC soon.
Saturday, October 01 - WEHS RAIDER INVITATIONAL & WCHS Dragon Classic. I wanted to go ahead and mention this as it is coming up VERY soon. We are continuing preparations for our contest and will have lots more information next week about what we need. Please stay tuned to your e-mail!
