WKU Honors Band
- Details
- Created on Tuesday, 14 December 2010 22:28
At Warren East, any band student in grades 10-12 is eligible to be nominated for the Western Kentucky University Honors Band. The WKU Honors Band is a series of three bands (a top band and two equal lower bands) hosted by Western Kentucky University.
Students who wish to be nominated will submit a nomination form to Mr. Cline no later than November 01 each year. After November 01, Mr. Cline will nominate those students who turn in forms for selection. The WKU Bands staff will review the nominations and select a number of students to participate in the Band. Students are selected on the basis of age, director ranking, ranking within section, and student achievement. Typically, Warren East HS has approximately eight students selected for the band each year.
Students will be notified of selection by mid-December. Students selected are guaranteed a place within one of the three Honors Bands. They will receive audition music by the middle of January and will audition for chair & band placement at the end of January:
- Thursday: Audition & Band Placement; First Rehearsal
- Friday: All-Day Rehearsals; PRISM Concert that evening
- Saturday: Final rehearsal & concert
Honors Band, while very similar to All-District, differs in that students do not receive the performance music until they are placed within a band on Thursday night. Two days worth of hard work goes into the preparation of the music for performance on Saturday afternoon. Honors Band is a wonderful opportunity that we encourage every student in the program to pursue.
